Small Cameras For Spying

Can cooperation use “spy” cameras against them?
Well i work for a store that’s known nation wide. They are putting many people under investigation and have put people under arrest and pressing charges… They claim they have “spy” cameras all over the store and have caught many people stealing stuff? They have not shown footage but according to a coworker they have shown him a camara behind the counter?
If they really do have small cameras that NO one knows about can they use it in the court of law? Or can they just use it to fire people?
I live in New York if that makes any difference?

Yes. There is no expectation of privacy in a retail store. They can and routinely do use footage from those cameras for prosecution.
