New Tamron 18-270 PZD Review – A Surprising Update That’s Really Worth It
I have bought and played around with this lens and now it is time to write this Tamron 18-270 PZD review. The Tamron 18-270mm PZD VC is the upgraded super zoom lens from just the regular Tamron 18-270mm VC lens.
Unlike the previous lens which is only available for Canon and Nikon DSLR, this lens is now available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony cameras at just $649.00 at the time of this writing.
The main point and difference is the PZD, from the name Tamron 18-270mm PZD. The PZD stands for Piezo Drive Technology. The PZD is an auto focus tool that produces faster, and yet, quieter auto focus, comparable to Canon’s Ultrasonic (USM) mechanism.
New components allow for a weight reduction and size reduction from the previous model. The new model’s weight rounds out to be 15.9 ounces, slightly lighter than the 19.5 ounces of its precursor.
The PZD also features a new 62 mm filter thread, which is superior to its predecessor’s 72 mm filter thread. This will reduce your spending on filters as filters with smaller dimension are known to be much cheaper compared to ones with bigger dimension.
One other difference is that this model is available to Sony DSLR cameras, along with the Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras, while the regular Tamron 18-270mm lens was only available for the Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras, opening this model up to new consumers and users of Sony DSLR.
Image quality is definitely more exceptional than the older model. The images appear to be sharper and contraster. Distortion is almost non-existent as the chronic aberration and vignetting has been greatly improved. This lens has maximum aperture and and ultimate 15X zoom.
Overall, this lens is definitely better than the predecessor. You will see it if you compare the results to the various Tamron 18-270 review online.
Despite the concerns for only small improvements, Tamron has made significant changes to the PZD model as you have seen in this new Tamron 18-270 PZD review.
This lens is extremely useful for the portable user as it is lighter and smaller with similar specifications, allowing shots in a variety of locations.
I would say that this lens is truly a travel photographers’ dream lens. With this lens, you can bring a Dslr Camera body and maybe some filters and you will be covered throughout the whole zoom range for your photography.
