Motion Activated Security Camera

Was I mean for doing this?
I live on a secured property (apartments). There is only one way onto the property, but four ways out. There are motion activated gates at the four exists, and they open whenever a vehicle approaches from the inside. They stay open about 30 seconds and then close again. This morning as I was about to exit, I saw a car sitting outside of the gates. He had his turn signal on, and I could tell he was waiting for me to exit the gates (there is no where else to turn on that street) so he could come inside. I put my car into reverse and went another way instead.
The security gates are there for a reason, and it ticks me off when people decide they can’t drive around the corner and enter the property the way they are supposed to (there is a camera that takes pics of all the license plates that come onto the property, tenant or not). It may be a hassle, but we all have to do it, no exceptions.
So, was I mean or did I do the right thing?
You did the right thing, the sole purpose of the secured parking lot is to protect you and your neighbors vehicles, and to reserve the parking for the tenants of the apartments. Who knows, you could have just saved someone’s car from being stolen.
